Prof. Plamen Mollov, chairman of the National Vine and Wine Chamber, in Land of Dionysus broadcast of Radio Focus
Host: What are the trends for the promotion and advertising of the Bulgarian wine?
Plamen Mollov: Vine and Wine Chamber is an organization which mainly aims to promote Bulgarian wine and to protect the interests of wine producers and wine products. By the end of the year there are several exhibitions in which we have an organizational role, we also in late May prepare a presentation of the winners during the "Winery 2012" the best wines in Bulgaria, including those awarded with Golden Rhyton and gold medals, awarded by the various wineries in order to present them to the tourist organizations in order somehow to promote Bulgarian wine and Bulgaria should not be connected as a tourist destination with those low-quality products which come with the system "all inclusive". In terms of what we envisage also - Participation in the forum, which is under the auspice of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry in September, which will promote the Bulgarian products, including local wine. We will most likely be actively involved as an organization. The Salon of Wine exhibition would be held by the end of the year, probably wine festival, of course, the Defile the Young Wine at the end of November and possibly the Wine Christmas just before Christmas. These are roughly the events that are primarily related with advertising the Bulgarian wine in Bulgaria.
Host: Whether the Bulgarian wine is well and sufficiently promoted?
Plamen Mollov: This is what is handled by a professional organization. Generally we can hardly expect something extraordinary in this field. We participate in the preparation of a project in which every moment expecting its approval - for the promotion of Bulgarian wines on third country markets, including markets in the U.S., Canada and China. We believe that if EU funds allocated for this purpose depends on Brussels at the moment, this will be a good opportunity to promote the Bulgarian brand - Bulgarian wine brand because when on the international markets there is a single company, it has almost no chance to establish its product and it is usually not taken seriously. All wine countries do one thing - they advertise their countries and not only the single wineries. So in that sense it is within the strengths of our professional organization and we try to do so as participating in various international exhibitions, do it consistently every year at major exhibitions - in London, Dusseldorf and etc., of course we participate in these exhibitions, our wines are sent, Bulgarian wines.
The advertising of wine is something that does not immediately reverse the result, but it should be done anyway because when you do not make such an advertisement, you lay just behind the market and become no one after some time.
