Around 5,000 children prematurely born in Bulgaria annually: doctor

Sofia. “Average annual rate of the prematurely born children in Bulgaria is between 10% and 12%. Assuming that the average annual birth rate in the country is 50,000 then around 5,000 of the babies are prematurely born,” said Dr Velimir Simov, neonatologist and podiatrist, head of the department for prematurely born babies at the 1st Multi-profile Hospital for Active Treatment – Sofia, in an interview with FOCUS News Agency.
