Mario Sepi, President of the European Economic and Social Committee, in an interview for FOCUS News Agency
FOCUS: Mr. Sepi, what are the issues and problems which the presidents of the EU national Economic and Social Councils are going to discuss at the Annual Meeting in Sofia during this/next week? What outcome do you expect from it? Mario Sepi: The Presidents and Secretaries general of the economic and social Councils of the EU member states are going to discuss, together with the EESC in Sofia, about the current economic and social challenges coming from the crisis and the problems of the labour market. This discussion will be particularly important in view of the new European context given by the entry into force of the Lisbon treaty. I expect this meeting to be productive and full of concrete proposals to answer the demands of civil society in this difficult, but also challenging, period.
The role of national ESCs is crucial to give an input to the EU in this phase of institutional renovation.
