New law for professors
24 November 2009 | 07:03 |
The Ministry of Education, Youth and Science is to vote a draft bill on the development of the academic staff, which if voted, would remove the Academic Degrees and Academic Rank Act. With the voting of the draft bill on development of the academic staff the academic degrees would become assistant, associate professor and professor.
“We want to say “goodbye” to the professor of the “opera type.” The professor is necessary to have at least two successful doctors and moreover, he/she should have an engagement towards the development of the institution,” said education minister Sergey Ignatov at his first news conference. This is the first and the main step towards the system of a licensed government towards the development through its competition.
“The academic staff of Sofia’s University St. Kliment Ohridski expressed during its last sitting its serious anxiety not to allow profanation of the degree, possibility to choose professors and associate professors. In Romania they have made this three or four years ago and for a year they have chosen 7000 professors,” said Professor Ivan Ilchev, rector of the Sofia’s University St. Kliment Ohridski.
