In his words, it would be good for Bulgaria if the use of this energy was aimed mainly at people’s daily lives or the agriculture sector.

Bulgarian govt faces groundless accusations of wanting to bring NEK to verge of bankruptcy: minister

24 February 2014 | 12:30 | FOCUS News Agency
Sliven. In the words of Bulgarian Minister of Economy and Energy Dragomir Stoynev, who is paying today a visit to the city of Sliven, the government is facing groundless accusations of aiming at bringing the Natsionalna Elektricheska Kompania (NEK) [English: National Electric Company] to the verge of bankruptcy, Radio FOCUS – Sliven reported.
Mr Stoynev firmly stated the cabinet of PM Plamen Oresharski worked in accordance with a programme for the stabilisation of the [energy] sector and realisation of big energy projects.
According to him, such accusations on the part of ministers who conducted policies aiming at destroying the energy sector and who activities led to an increase of the budget’s deficit by some BGN 2 billion are particularly groundless.
In the minister’s words, [delivering] gas from Azerbaijan is the only way for diversification of the country’s energy sector to be achieved.
Dragomir Stoynev also said the possibility for the establishment of a Bulgarian-Azerbaijani company which to work for gas supply [to households] was being discussed but this could be done after the realisation of the project for gas delivery from Azerbaijan.

Sliven. ”Results from the checks on power distribution companies’ activities will become clear over the next months,” Bulgarian Economy and Energy Minister Dragomir Stoynev said speaking during a visit to the city of Sliven, Radio FOCUS – Sliven reported.
In his words, the checks are conducted by the National Revenue Agency (NRA), the State Agency for National Security (SANS) and the Public Financial Inspection Agency (PFIA) and a comprehensive analysis is to be prepared. Mr Stoynev also believes it is wrong if people, both clients of power distribution companies and heating utilities, pay high heating bills as the weather has been mild this winter.
He stated a decision needed to be soon made as to the activities of Toplofikatsiya Sofia [Sofia’s central heating utility] as its management had implemented no measures to pay off its debts to the Natsionalna Elektricheska Kompania (NEK) [English: National Electric Company] and the current debts were still at the amount of over BGN 500,000,000.
