Bulgarian government earmarked about BGN 12 million from the 2014 state budget for providing jobs to 2,124 people of Roma ethnicity. Another BGN 5 million under different national programmes were earmarked for Roma integration, Deputy Prime Minister Zinaida Zlatanova said, as cited by Trud
daily. She explained that projects worth BGN 37 million under EU Operational Programmes would be aimed at educating Roma people. Hyusein Hafazov, member of Movement for Rights and Freedoms, is worried that integration of Roma people may lead to their assimilation and called for preservation of their cultural, ethnic and language identity. Ms Zlatanova, however, assured him that integration would not assimilate Roma people.
