Bulgarian socialists to launch initiative to clean and restore monuments

Plovdiv. Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) will launch an initiative aiming at cleaning and restoring the monuments dedicated to the Bulgarian army and the victory over fascism. BSP leader Sergey Stanishev announced the news speaking before journalists in the city of Plovidv, Radio FOCUS – Plovdiv reported.
The initiative is set to begin before May 6, St George's Day, which is also the Day of the Bulgarian Army, and May 9, the so-called Victory Day, which marks the capitulation of Nazi Germany to the Soviet Union in the World War II.
Mr Stanishev is convinced party members and followers will participate in the initiative.
The BSP leader visited the so-called Monument of Alyosha in Plovdiv to see its condition it was painted in the past.
In his words, the BSP have always opposed that [painting or dressing monuments].
The BSP district councils will be tasked with assessing which monuments need to be restored.
