Sofia. “We saw in Miziya very good organisation of [the work] of the civil protection [directorate], the Red Cross, the local authorities,“ said European Commissioner for International Cooperation, Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Response, Kristalina Georgieva, speaking for the Bulgarian National Television (BNT).
Georgieva visited on Wednesday the town in northwest Bulgaria, which suffered a devastating flood at the beginning of August.
In her words, the people there have been accommodated and have food and water.
Miziya’s Mayor has also impressed the EU official with his work.
“We see what an important role a way of thinking dedicated to the prevention of disasters plays as the accommodation will be in caravans Bulgaria bought through aid it received from the European Commission (EC) as the danger of disasters and respectively the need of such temporary accommodation is here assessed as bigger,“ the Commission stated.
Georgieva thinks a complex programme has to be prepared and EU financing is applied for so that the aid is also a drive behind the economic recovery of the region.
