In a situation in which Macedonia is among the countries that contributes with the most troops to NATO missions per capita of the population, while failing to become a member must now give up the dream of South Stream gas pipeline, although it cannot initiate negotiations for EU membership, it is logical to put the question - is it worth that sacrifice and where the interest of the country are at the moment? According to the edition the answer can be found easily if you look at the data of relations with Russia, the EU and Turkey. The main conclusion is that Macedonia has very little trade exchange with Russia, compared to economic exchanges, financial assistance and contacts with the EU. If you look through the prism of the funds, Macedonia received more than EUR 1 billion grants of from funds of the Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA). Russia doesn’t fall in such a category, and even has a pending debt to Macedonia, which still hasn’t not paid off despite of its huge foreign exchange reserves. The South Stream was a project by which Russia said it will finally repay the debt and now the question is if there is no South Stream project whether it will return its debt or not, the newspaper reads further.
