Sofia. ”It is very likely [current European Commissioner for International Cooperation, Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Response] Kristalina Georgieva will become a Vice-President of the European Commission (EC). If she is charge of the budget portfolio, this will be fine – this is a field she could work very well,” said Deputy Chairperson of the ABV party and former foreign minister and former MEP, Ivaylo Kalfin, speaking for TV7.
He said further the concrete portfolio the Bulgarian EU Commission would be in charge of was still a matter of discussion as the European Commission (EC) was still being formed.
Kristalina Georgieva was a nominee to succeed UK’s Catherine Ashton as High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy yet Italian Federica Mogherini was appointed EU foreign policy chief.
“Kristalina Georgieva has good reputation at the institutions in Brussels, at the European Parliament (EP) and the European Commission (EC). In the portfolio she was responsible for [...] I think she did very well,“ Kalfin remarked.

Brussels. “The fact that Bulgaria participated [in the sitting of the European Council] strengthened the position of our country in the allocation of portfolios and responsibilities in the new EU Commission. I can tell our countrymen with certainty that the new Bulgarian EU Commissioner will have a significant role in the next five years”. That is what Kristalina Georgieva, current European Commissioner for International Cooperation, Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Response, told journalists in Brussels, cited by BNR.
Mrs Georgieva did not specify what that role could be, but mentioned as real options portfolios such as environment and climate, budget, transport and energy. "I've been Director of Environment at the World Bank. Of course I was dealing with budgets. I have enough experience in the Energy sector – I was director of infrastructure and energy," Kristalina Georgieva said.
