Rostourism Head Olef Safonov: Bulgaria, Russia to continue active cooperation in 2017

Sofia. “In 2017 Bulgaria and Russia will continue their active cooperation in the field of tourism.”
This is what Oleg Safonov, Head of the Federal Agency for Tourism of the Russian Federation, said speaking for Radio FOCUS after meeting with Bulgarian outgoing Minister of Tourism Nikolina Angelkova in Moscow.
According to Mr Safonov, the positive results and the increase in the number of Russian tourists in Bulgaria in 2016 should continue this year, too.
“Together with Ms Angelkova we discussed the initial results for the past 2016. We ascertained that during this year the cooperation between Bulgaria and Russia achieved very good results, such as the 40% growth in the number of Russian tourists in Bulgaria. Many additional new and popular tourist products were released on our market and we think that this is a good indicator.
I would like to note that the Bulgarian government took all measures needed to guarantee the safety of our citizens during their trips in the country. This is very important for us with regard to the fact that we witness an increasing threat against Russia in the world, as well as the serious increase in the number of terrorist attacks in Europe.
We consider Bulgaria a friendly and safe county and we welcome the increase of the number of Russian tourists there.
Over the past year we had a worked out strategy for development of the cooperation between our countries in the field of tourism. It includes active distribution of both Bulgarian tourist products in Russia and the opportunities to feel Russia in Bulgaria. Our countries took active part in different events and exhibitions, our cooperation has a very active character.
It is highly important for us that the trips to Bulgaria were much facilitated and they are not expensive at all. We believe that we should continue working in these directions in the future.
Unfortunately, there is a visa regime between our countries, and according to us, we should continue working towards securing more comfortable trips between the two countries,” Mr Safonov commented further.
In his words, much was done towards facilitation of the visa regime last year.
“We also agreed to continue our active cooperation in the field of tourism in 2017, and to implement our action plan, agreed earlier in 2016. We outlined our ambitions and wishes for the positive dynamics in 2016 to continue in 2017.
I have great respect for Minister Angelkova, I feel comfortable to work together, I appreciate her much because of her professionalism and remarkable personal skills. Minister Angelkova is an energetic, smart, and professional person and we can achieve high goals in our cooperation in the field of tourism together,” Oleg Safonov said.
