Schröder — German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s predecessor — is already chairman of the shareholders’ committee of Nord Stream AG, a gas-pipeline consortium set up to transport Russian gas across the Baltic sea and into Germany.
Moscow owns a controlling stake in Rosneft, which is currently under Western economic sanctions originally imposed over Russia’s annexation of Crimea.
The government notice also said that Rosneft intends to increase the number of directors on its management board from nine to 11.
