DOST are an instrument in attempts for foreign invasion and separatism in Bulgaria, MEP Angel Dzhambazki told FOCUS Radio
regarding the demand from DOST party leader Lyutvi Mestan for official recognition of a Turkish minority in the country. There are no legal grounds for such a demand, according to Dzhambazki, who reminded that the Bulgarian constitution does not allow any autonomous formations. He said there were no national minorities on Bulgarian territory according to the constitution. In his words, the constitution clearly states that the origin of any Bulgarian citizen cannot be the basis either of rights or of privileges.
He also said that Bulgaria needs to limit Ankara’s influence in local elections, for example by reducing the number of polling stations on Turkish territory.
