The document will be signed at the meeting of the two governments in Strumitsa on 23 November. It will encourage mobile operators to conclude agreements between themselves that would lead to a permanent reduction in roaming charges for end-users. They are currently among the highest in Europe - between BGN 2.99 and BGN 6.99 per minute and about BGN 25 per megabyte.
Dropping of roaming charges between the Western Balkan countries and the EU is among the priorities of the Bulgarian government and the Bulgarian EU Commissioner, Mariya Gabriel. It is part of the measures to improve connectivity at all levels in the region, which will directly affect the contacts between citizens and businesses. Along with political support for the European integration of the Western Balkans, the government is also committed to supporting practical solutions that will assist the region develop as a common market of 22 million people.
