Lorita Radeva, Sofia Municipality: We will introduce legislative changes to regulate quality of household fuels22 November 2017 | 15:38 | FOCUS News Agency
In her words, measurements show that household fuel combustion is one of the main air pollutants. “We will be stepping up the control of illegal burning of highly polluting materials such as waste tires. In this regard, we will introduce a pilot project to convince citizens to use fuels that have good heating properties but do not pollute the air.”
“Another action that the Sofia Municipality will take is to introduce quality standards for household fuels. We want to make sure that even people eligible for welfare benefits receive fuels that do not increase air pollution,” she said.
Sofia Municipality participates in a project for cross-border cooperation. “We will approve a system that allows for a local air quality monitoring with mobile sensors, not only in areas where the Executive Environmental Protection Agency stations are located.”
“We are also in the final stage of developing an early warning system. We have been working together with a team of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and a working group is now preparing the appropriate steps to be taken when receiving such alerts”, Radeva said.
