“The first outbreak started on 23 July and included a total of 50 cases from the villages of Belozem, Shishmantsi and Chalakovi. The infection was transmitted from the village of Milevo, where in April 2017, 16 cases were reported. The second outbreak was reported on 16 August 2017, and up to now there have been 62 cases in the town of Rakovski. In addition, in the village of Katunutza, Sadovo municipality, from 18 August 2017 to date, a total of 32 cases have been reported. Out of a total of 144 cases from Rakovski and Sadovo, 105 or 72.9% are children under 15 with mild symptoms. Since the beginning of 2017, 568 cases of viral hepatitis A have been reported in the region of Plovdiv. The infection was caused by inadequate sanitation and poor personal hygiene, not by unsafe water or food,” the minister said.
