Sofia. The district prosecutor’s office in Shumen committed no violations in their work in response to the tip from a BSP party member, the national Prosecutor’s Office said. According to the results of the check ordered by the Prosecutor General, the prosecutors acted in accordance with their duties and the law. However, the check found that a lot of information requested by the local police from BSP goes beyond the task which the district prosecutors assigned to the police. The collection of that information was undertaken on the initiative of the police in Shumen, the Prosecutor’s Office said.
BSP said this statement confirms their thesis that the Interior Ministry and the institutions are used for political pressure against the opposition.

BSP asks chief prosecutor to check for political meddling in Shumen prosecutor’s office

Sofia. The Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) asked Prosecutor General Sotir Tsatsarov to check if recent actions by the regional prosecutor’s office in Shumen were politically directed, FOCUS News Agency reported. According to BSP leader Kornelia Ninova, the prosecutors in Shumen ordered the regional economic police department to request lists of participants in BSP meetings and party members. This happened after a state official, member of BSP, was fired although he was not a member of the party management, Ninova explained. “In recent years there has been pressure and repression on citizens, blackmail and pressure on small and medium-sized businesses, on dissenters. If you say anything against those in power, the entire state apparatus mobilises against you, you get fired from work, they send you the tax authority, the customs,” Kornelia Ninova said.
