Yanka Takeva, teachers’ union: Parents should talk to children with respect about Bulgarian teachers

Sofia. Parents should talk to their children with respect about the Bulgarian teacher, Yanka Takeva, Chairperson of the Bulgarian Union of Teachers, told FOCUS Radio in connection with mistreatment of children in a kindergarten in Burgas. The union leader called the case a precedent that cannot cast gloom over the entire education system.
“Technology can in no way replace normal human communication. Such precedents occur because the communication between parents, teachers and pupils is disrupted. There are also many other well-known factors publicly talked about. Communication and welfare must be at the heart of all interaction, especially with children and teachers, because a society can do nothing without teachers,” Yanka Takeva said.
The union will start a campaign opposing violence against children and teachers. “All teachers have job descriptions outlining their duties and rights, but in Bulgaria the scheme is inverted – the teacher has 6 rights against 14 rights of the parent and the pupil,” Yanka Takeva said.
