Parliament removes Valeri Zhablyanov as deputy speaker

21 February 2018 | 11:51 | FOCUS News Agency
Sofia. The Parliament approved the request from Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria (CEDB/GERB) to dismiss Valeri Zhablyanov as Deputy President of the Parliament, FOCUS News Agency reports. The proposal was adopted with 110 to 71 votes. Only the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) voted against it, saying it is contrary to the parliament rules and the constitution, while the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) did not participate in the vote. GERB MP Spas Garnevski said: “It is high time for communist cynicism to descend from the National Assembly’s rostrum.” GERB requested the dismissal on the grounds of Valeri Zhablyanov’s statements against the friendship treaty with Macedonia, violation of order in Parliament on February 1 during the tribute to the victims of the communist regime and his statement in BSP’s declaration against the procession in memory of Lukov that the special court after the communist coup of 1944 was “necessary and inevitable wartime justice.”

GERB to collect signatures for deputy parliament speaker to resign

GERB to collect signatures for deputy parliament speaker to resign

16 February 2018 | 12:00 | FOCUS News Agency
Sofia. Ruling party Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria (CEDB/GERB) starts to collect signatures for MP Valeri Zhablyanov to resign as Deputy President of the Parliament on the grounds of repeated violations of the rules, GERB MP Toma Bikov said, quoted by FOCUS News Agency. He said that the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) was unable to take a clear political decision and that Zhablyanov may express his personal opinion about political violence as an ordinary MP.
In a response, Zhelyo Boychev, MP and BSP deputy head in Parliament, accused GERB of using history in an attempt to cover the real problems of today. Zhelyo Boychev has earlier said in an interview with FOCUS Radio that Zhablyanov did not break any rule as Deputy President of the Parliament.

BSP does not support GERB’s demand for Valeri Zhablyanov to resign, apologises to repressed by communist regime

BSP does not support GERB’s demand for Valeri Zhablyanov to resign, apologises to repressed by communist regime

15 February 2018 | 16:12 | FOCUS News Agency
Sofia. The Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) does not support the demand from Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria (CEDB/GERB) for Valeri Zhablyanov to resign as Deputy President of the Parliament, but the party apologises to those repressed during the communist regime, BSP deputy chairman Kiril Dobrev told reporters. He recalled that the party has a stance since 1991. “By accepting the political responsibility of its predecessor for the committed mistakes and deformations, BSP apologises to all citizens of the country, including party members, who were illegally, unjustifiably or unjustly repressed, terrorised or humiliated in that period. So far, no party body has revised this or issued another stance,” he said, quoted by FOCUS News Agency.
Earlier today GERB demanded Valeri Zhablyanov’s resignation for having authored a statement within a BSP official position that the special court of Communist Bulgaria was “necessary and inevitable justice.”
Later the union of Bulgarians repressed by the communist regime demanded a public apology and Valeri Zhablyanov to resign, accusing BSP of hypocrisy.
Valeri Zhablyanov said there is no reason for him to resign. “BSP’s executive board has an official position. I have my personal opinion, so I do not see anything wrong,” he told reporters.
