Sofia. A single state body to monitor the dams would better secure people’s safety, Hayredin Mayor Todor Aleksiev told FOCUS Radio this morning, commenting on the government’s idea to create a company for dams. He said that the municipalities do not have enough experts and money to manage their dams. If the facilities are transferred to the state, this would improve coordination and prevent abuses with funds disbursed for dam maintenance, according to Aleksiev. He thinks that even if the municipalities get additional funds for the dams, some might use the money for other purposes. Commenting on the current situation in Hayredin, he said that the water level in the Rogozen 1 dam is decreasing, but there is still risk until the water returns to normal levels. The dams in the municipality have been close to emergency for years, and the money for repair and maintenance is too little, the mayor added.Open in new tab
