Daniela Daritkova, GERB: Vaccines in Bulgaria are of guaranteed quality, efficiency and safety23 April 2018 | 15:28 | FOCUS News Agency
“The vaccines distributed in Bulgaria are produced according to all requirements of the European Medicines Agency because we are an EU member state and on our territory there can only be medicines that are approved for distribution all over Europe. In Bulgaria, there are mandatory immunisations against 11 infectious diseases and the vaccines are of guaranteed quality, efficiency, efficacy and safety,” Daritkova said.
The immunisation coverage in Bulgaria is currently about 92%, below the 95% recommended by the World Health Organisation. Daritkova noted that flu immunisation in particular, which is optional, is of too low coverage in the country, something that should be addressed by all health authorities, given the seriousness of the infection, she commented.
The immunisation problems are traditionally greater in some compact Roma communities in certain areas, she added. According to her, the growing number of health mediators, usually people from the Roma community, would help overcome the low immunisation coverage in that community. She added that another positive factor were the required immunisation and prophylactic examinations for child allowances.
