Prosecutors detain chief of police in Rakovski for bribery

Plovdiv. The chief of police in Rakovski, Georgi Iliev, has been detained for requesting BGN 20,000 from a cigarette smuggler in March 2017 to stop the investigation against him, prosecutor Rumen Popov said at a briefing, quoted by Focus Radio. The chief of police acted together with two of his subordinates. They were detained last month and have given detailed testimony before a judge. The prosecutors pressed charges against all three and a fourth accomplice. According to the investigation, the bribe was requested and received on March 15, 2017. It was divided between the four. Georgi Iliev is detained for 72 hours.
