There is extremely heavy traffic at Kulata border checkpoint at the exit from Bulgaria, Lora Lyubenova, Spokesperson for the Border Police, told Focus Radio – Pirin
. Since 30 May, the rightmost lane has been closed for repair works on the Greek side. “Yesterday, covering of concrete was laid and according to preliminary information the road should be open in about 10 days. Traffic signs and cones have been placed on site to signal the temporary traffic arrangements,” Lyubenova said. “Additionally, traffic is obstructed by the increasing number of third-country nationals – mostly tourists from Ukraine, Serbia and Moldova. They are subject to a thorough border check both at the Bulgarian and the Greek border,” Lyubenova added. She said there had been talks with the Greek authorities to find a solution. “Immediately after border control, all cars coming into Greece are physically inspected by the Greek police, seeking to prevent smuggling of excise goods,” she said.
