The calls for unity between the political parties are rarely viable in our country, political scientist Boris Popivanov told Focus Radio
in connection with the idea of EU Commissioner Mariya Gabriel, GERB’s lead candidate for the European election, for a memorandum between the parties for a common platform for the election. According to Popivanov, such agreements are impossible because there is always a feeling that one party wants to take precedence over another. The presentation of GERB’s platform with this list is strongly suggestive of a second government with allocated responsibilities, Popivanov said. “At the presentation of the platform there was a strong emphasis on European money for Bulgaria – the funds and various programmes – for opening up new opportunities, which was pointed out in different spheres by GERB’s candidates for the next EP. But there is always the question of why these existing opportunities have not been used as much as possible when the party is in power. Still, that was the main direction, European money,” he explained. Boris Popivanov also commented that GERB’s emphasis on similarities with the EPP in its electoral platform was no surprise. The party is doing what it was expected to do – be loyal to the EPP and secure the necessary votes.
