Another six members of crime group involved in phone fraud to be charged

Sofia. The Special Criminal Court has imposed the toughest measure, remand in custody, on five of the members of an organised crime group involved in phone fraud, which were arrested in Gorna Oryahovitsa and Sofia on 18 April 2019, said the Appellate Prosecutor's Office. Another six group members were detained with a European arrest warrant in Romania that same day. They will be handed over by the Romanian authorities to the Bulgarian authorities and charged.
The Special Criminal Court accepted the prosecution's argument that the evidence gathered was sufficient to make a well-founded presumption that they had been involved in the acts they were charged with. At the same time, there was a risk that each of them could commit another crime or influence the witnesses in the case, the court ruled.
The measures can be appealed before the Appellate Criminal Court.

Targovishte. Over the past two days, about 10 phone fraud attempts under the police impostor scam have been thwarted in Targovishte city, said the Targovishte regional directorate of the Ministry of the Interior. The police are warning the public once again never to give money or valuables demanded in a telephone conversation by someone claiming to be a police officer. The police do not request money from a private citizen and do not seek financial assistance from them during an operation to crack down on fraudsters. People are urged to disconnect the call immediately and call 112 or the nearest police station, if they have received a phone call with a similar request.
