Minister Desislava Taneva: Bulgaria implements measures that have a positive impact on soil carbon retention24 September 2019 | 16:07 | FOCUS News Agency
She said Bulgaria appreciates the efforts made by the Finnish Presidency to produce a document outlining the importance of soil carbon sequestration in the fight against climate change. Bulgaria believes that the legislative proposals for the CAP after 2020 provide an appropriate framework for increasing the capacity of soils to absorb carbon.
The existing agricultural practices in Bulgaria can contribute to the achievement of high environmental results. The most effective methods for soil carbon retention used in the country are sowing cover crops, precise use of nitrogen, observance of crop rotation, etc.
The coupled support mechanism contributes to the fulfilment of better environmental conditions. According to Minister Taneva, making multi-annual commitments and providing sufficient resources for the new CAP will enable the utilisation of the environmental potential of the supported sectors and industries.
