Yulia Tsinsova, Sofia City Library: About 40% of our rare and valuable books have been digitised18 October 2019 | 10:53 | FOCUS News Agency
There are 12,000 rare books, she said. The development of technology over the last decade has had a major impact on libraries, Tsingova explained, adding that the volume of digitally created documents and digitised cultural and historical heritage has been increasing. The Ministry of Culture has developed a strategy for creating a digital library of Bulgaria, but at the moment each library in Sofia digitises its books separately, said she. "We have fully digitised children's periodicals – 113 titles. All of them have been published on the Serdika digital platform on the Sofia Library website. In addition, we participate in several digital platforms together with other cultural institutions – the Institute of Literature and the National Literary Museum, project Bulgarian Literary Classics – Knowledge for Everyone, for example. We also participate in the Digital Sofia platform together with the Museum of History of Sofia and the City Gallery. We have electronic databases at the American Center, e-library," she explained.
Sofia Library has increasingly more international contacts. It became a member of the International Organisation of Libraries last year, Tsinsova said. Still, contacts with the city libraries of Balkan capitals are the closest, Tsingova said, adding that they prepare joint projects for digital platforms.
