Education Minister Krasimir Valchev: The education system is too ambitious to teach knowledge and non-ambitious to transform it into skills4 December 2019 | 14:52 | FOCUS News Agency
In his words, 6 900 ninth-graders in Bulgaria participated in the PISA survey. "In all three categories - reading, math and science, the scores have dropped. And in natural sciences, the drop is significant," the education minister said. A teacher's primary role is to arouse children's curiosity about the world, an interest in learning, he explained, “that's the changing philosophy and focus of the education system, and that's what we're trying to do”.
“We should not dramatise the negative results, rather the problem is that we have had no improvement in the long run. And an improvement cannot happen because it is still the old system, the old programme, these are students who have been tested under the old programmes," said Minister Valchev.
