Minister Nikolina Angelkova: For the first 11 months of 2019 revenues from international tourism exceeded EUR 3.6 billion14 February 2020 | 12:25 | FOCUS News Agency
The tourism sector accounts for nearly 12% of Bulgaria's gross domestic product, Minister Angelokova pointed out. In her words, 2019 was difficult for the industry, and yet there was an increase in both the number of foreign tourists and overnight stays.
“2019 brought a lot of struggles. With join efforts, we were able to end the year with very positive results, despite the attempts for a really negative campaign in the beginning of last summer against the sector, and especially the summer tourism. And it accounts for at least 70% of all international tourism revenues, and they are by no means small," she said.
Bulgaria had over 9.3 million foreign arrivals last year, which was an increase of 0.4%, and over 27 million overnight stays - an increase of over 1.8%. “I hope that 2020 will continue at the same steady pace and establish Bulgaria as a preferred tourism destination,” said Minister Angelkova.
