FOCUS: Happy Summer Saint Clement of Ohrid. How do you celebrate the day in Ohrid?
Aleksandar Petreski: We are now going to the monument of Saint Clement in Ohrid and then we will sign a twinning and cooperation agreement between Ohrid and Turkey’s Yalova. There were many cultural events to mark the Saint Celement Day.
For the first time this year we observe the Summer Clement of Ohrid, too. Until now we used to mark more the Winter Clement of Ohrid. This year we held a Sunday of Saint Clement of Ohrid.
There were concerts at the square, there were several art expositions. We organized a promotion of books and literary readings. We had a rich program at the Ohrid Summer Festival with the Saint Zlata Maglenska Choir. Tonight there will be a performance of a Turkish drama cast. We have a really rich program, which entertains the guests in Ohrid.
FOCUS: Are there many guests?
Aleksandar Petreski: The guests are never too many. There are many guests from the delegations for the holiday, as it is a holiday season. Ohrid is full of tourists.
FOCUS: Where do tourists come from?
Aleksandar Petreski: They come from many countries. There are tourists from Macedonia, Bulgaria, Serbia, Slovenia, the Netherlands. There are more Russian tourists. After a long break, tourists from China and Israel have returned to Ohrid this summer.
FOCUS: What’s the weather in Ohrid?
Aleksandar Petreski: It is good. The weather is hot, the lake is calm and the water is warm. The weather starts getting very hot but this is good for Ohrid.
FOCUS: Have you solved the problem around the ships in the Ohrid Lake?
Aleksandar Petreski: No, we haven’t.
FOCUS: Can tourists visit St. Naum then?
Aleksandar Petreski: Yes, they can. Tourists use smaller ships, buses and cars. There are many tourists there. However, it is a negative thing that the big ships are not sailing.
FOCUS: What is the capacity of the small ships?
Aleksandar Petreski: They seat up to 20 tourists.
FOCUS: Today Ohrid becomes a twin town with Turkish Yalova?
Aleksandar Petreski: Indeed, Ohrid becomes twin town with Yalova, which is a very nice town, located around 50 kilometers away from Istanbul, close to the Sea of Marmara. It is a historical and tourist town, which apart form the sea also has mineral springs. At the same time Smolyan becomes a twin town to Ohrid, too. Probably we will start discussing form three-way cooperation: Ohrid, Yalova, Smolyan.
FOCUS: How many twin towns does Ohrid have?
Aleksandar Petreski: At least 20.
